New Ethanol Cars in costa-rica in
The Costa Rican Automotive Chamber is calling for a renewed plan to include ethanol in the mix of fuels sold in the country.
This was stated by the organization in a press release signed by its president, José Carballo, who stressed that this measure will contribute greatly to improving the country's environmental image.
"There are many reasons for the use of ethanol blended with gasoline. It is an ethyl alcohol obtained from the fermentation and distillation of sugars such as sugar cane, corn and sugar beet. We should not be afraid of a fuel that has been used in Europe, the United States and many countries in the world for more than 20 years with excellent results [...]," the letter says.
There are even already flex-fuel vehicles that run on a higher proportion of ethanol than fuel. These are the reasons given by the Costa Rican Automotive Chamber for the massive use of ethanol in the country:
- With 10% in the blend, it is 30% less polluting than gasoline, which reduces the amount of greenhouse gases that cause global warming.
- Better land use and job creation, especially in rural areas.
- Lower oil bill, lower foreign exchange outflows and lower fuel prices.
- Less pollution, better health, less disability, less oil consumption and better engine performance.
- MTBE, an additive used to oxygenate gasoline but which is carcinogenic, is eliminated.
- Its processing produces byproducts such as sugarcane pomace, electricity generation, high-protein yeast and grapes.
