DR Automobiles S.r.l. (formerly DR Motor Company) is an Italian automobile company, based in Macchia d'Isernia, founded in 2006 by Massimo Di Risio. The company produces cars by adding Italian design and standards to components supplied by foreign companies such as Chery Automobile. The company, based in Macchia d'Isernia, in Molise, soon became famous for its unusual initial marketing strategy; initially, without having its own distribution network, the company entered into a partnership with Finiper Group. Until 2009 it is possible to find and buy cars in hypermarkets. Today the company has its own supply chain with over seventy dealers and over one hundred Service DRs all over Italy.
DR was founded by Massimo Di Risio in 2006 with the intent of selling vehicles that boast an Italian design, counting on the support of other production companies for the supply of components. The idea of DR stems from the past experience of the founder Massimo Di Risio, who in 1985 founded Di Risio s.r.l. for the distribution and marketing of cars of various brands, including the Saleen S7. Subsequently Di Risio founded Katay, a brand entirely dedicated to Chinese car imports. Today the company has a production plant, with a production of about 100 vehicles per day, in Macchia d'Isernia and bases in Rome, Campobasso and Pescara. Since 2009, seventy dealers have been opened throughout Italy and a network of after-sales service centers with over a hundred DR Service led by Enrico Romano (Jaguar administrator and former Ferrari manager). Since 2010, the DR administration is led by Roberto Risi, former manager of Finance Manufacturing Worldwide at Fiat.
Thanks to the company strategy, the car brand has become famous in Italy. Not having a distribution network outside the production site, DR has entered into an agreement with the Finiper Group to implement a distribution strategy and contacts with the public within supermarkets and shopping centers. In December 2009, in conjunction with the launch of the DR1, DR Motor Company inaugurated its Italian sales network and terminated the contract with the Finiper Group. To date, the car distribution network in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has over one hundred and seventy dealers and workshops.
