The variation between filling stations across the country may be due to both geographical difficulties of access to the area in question, as well as purely commercial reasons for the distributor and operator of the LPG supply point.
Filling stations further away from large urban centres, and therefore less able to attract customers, tend to sell a lower volume of automotive LPG, which they tend to try to compensate for by increasing prices.
In any case, automotive LPG prices in New Zealand are very competitive compared to traditional fuels and even to new forms of alternative mobility.

LPG price news in New Zealand
15 January 2022. In less than a month, New Zealand will stop producing its own transport fuels. Petrol, diesel, aviation and marine fuels now manufactured at Marsden Point - around 70% of requirements - will now be imported. The plan is that by 1 April, the country's only oil refinery at Marsden Point in Northland will have closed and begin to be dismantled.
The company that operates the plant, Refining NZ, will change its name to Channel Infrastructure NZ and completely change its business model. It will no longer convert crude oil into usable fuels destined for New Zealand's fuel needs; instead, it will receive and store imported fuels and transport some of them through its infrastructure in New Zealand.
