In 2020, the European Union approved the European Green Deal, a package that integrates a set of public policy initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Given the concern about the development of renewable hydrogen in the field of energy transition, the European Union Strategy for Green Hydrogen was published in July of the same year, in coordination with several countries. Among them, Portugal.
In Portugal, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Action recently declared that there are 70 investment projects in renewable hydrogen in the pipeline, located in different regions of the country, amounting to more than 8,000 million euros, with special emphasis on the Valley of Hydrogen from the Port of Sines.
Portugal's public policy to create the bases of the H2V production chain and its derivatives is aligned with the strategies of the European Union. Several projects for the design and development of hydrogen refueling stations for light and heavy vehicles associated with transport fleets are already underway in Portugal.
The price of hydrogen in Portugal is around €15/kg for sale, although depending on the type of supply this amount can be much higher.
